KL5144: Copenhagen Saxophone Quartet
Italian Baroque
Corelli, Scarlatti, Pergolesi

Copenhagen Saxophone Quartet
Italian Baroque
Corelli, Scarlatti, Pergolesi

These days with the great focus on original instrument performances, the music of the Italian Baroque with a saxophone quartet might be considered "musically incorrect" but...the saxophone quartet has the power to sound like a mixture of strings and lends the baroque music a rare and authentic quality. It is all performed with respect towards tradition. Listen for yourself and be very surprised by what you hear.

KL5146: John Lewis, In Memoriam Concert Pieces for Two Pianos

John Lewis, In Memoriam Concert Pieces for Two Pianos

This recording came about through a long friendship between David Ward-Steinman and Tony Gould. David Ward-Steinman is a classical composer and first rate jazz pianist — Tony Gould is a jazz pianist. It is worth noting that outside the strictly written sections of the Solal and Lewis pieces, all playing is approached in a totally spontaneous way. The results are magical.

KL5147: Bach Beat A Marimbist as Pointillist Makoto Nakura, Marimba and Vibraphone

Bach Beat A Marimbist as Pointillist Makoto Nakura, Marimba and Vibraphone

In Makota Nakura's booklet notes, he says the following: "Bach's music is the highest mountain for all musicians to climb. Even though Bach didn't write any pieces for marimba, I haven't spent a single day without playing his music from my own transcriptions of Bach's works for organ, violin, cello, flute, lute and keyboard. The reason I want to play Bach on the marimba comes to this — I would like people to listen to the music I am playing rather than to what instrument I am playing."

KL5148: Songs from the Heart

Songs from the Heart

When Charles Schlueter retired from the Boston Symphony as the principal trumpet player, he decided to record a CD that would be retrospective of repertoire he performed before he became a professional. The pieces are presented in chronological order in which played them. Schlueter performed all of these solos fifty plus years ago; thus the CD is aptly titled "Songs from the Heart."
